Making a splash at number 6 is my good friend Karen Civil…. Karen is an inspiration, and an awesome role model for the generation coming up to follow. She’s made her own way in the industry, started her own wildly successful media company, and is well on her way to becoming a media-mogul! Karen Civil, a woman on a mission to bring the world hip-hop the “Civilized Way”. An industry insider, focused, determined and fueledby her motto, “What u put your mind to put your grind to”. Nicknamed “Hip-hop’s Blossom” In October 2008 she established thevastly popular, KarenCivil.com, a blog that focuses on her love for Hip-hop. Former A&R coordinator/Internet Media Coordinator of Dipset Records, she has moved on to Internet media for The Clipse & Young Money. Karen Civil has been interviewed for Honey Mag, XXL, Vibe to name a few for her outstanding work in hiphop.

Karen was the very first person we shot for this series. Not only was she our guinea-pig, but she was such a trooper! This was the ONLY shoot that I didn’t really shoot. I just directed behind the scenes. My photographer shot most of her, and I did the two outdoor shots you see. We first shot her on the bottom-floor of BET’s offices in Times Square, then we went outside for a couple more shots. It was freezing– which is why I say  she’s such a trooper! Check it out!
