Yesterday afternoon, an earthquake that measures 7 on the rictor scale, hit the small island of Haiti– destroying most of the capital city (Port-au-Prince). We have NEVER seen a natural disaster like this, in the region, and I can’t help but wonder if Dominican Republic has been affected as well…. I am simply horrified by the tragedy. the infrastructure of the country is such that it cannot handle a natural-disaster of this magnitude. It breaks my heart. I have several friends from Haiti (including my best friend of nearly 20 years) who is affected by this tragedy. The death toll is being estimated in the thousands, but there won’t be a sure answer until sometime tomorrow. The news is reporting that the 2 major hotels in the capital were destroyed– hundreds are estimated dead in those hotels alone.
