8 years ago today, we lost an angel in our midst– the talented and beloved Aaliyah Haughton. Singer, actress, mentor, philanthropist and role-model– she will forever be missed, and forever stay in our consciousness. After shooting a video for “Rock the Boat” in the Bahamas, Aaliyah and some of her crew boarded a small-engine plane out of the beautiful island, only to crash to their death due to over-weight cargo. She was only 22 years old. Although she was young, she had accomplished so much in her career, and tyouched so many lives. At the young age of 14, she was hob-nobbing with some of entertainment’s finest including: Timblanad, Missy, Ginuwine, Lil’ Kim, Jay-Z, and (ahem, ahem) R. Kelly. With a beautiful voice, funky, sexy tom-boy style, great hair and wicked dance moves– who DIDN’T wanna be Aaliyah?  Truly an angel who was way ahead of her time, we honor her today.
