Last night at the Afro Punk concert, Janelle Monae ripped the stage with an 8-piece set. She went in so hard, that her hair pins all came loose– but homegirl is a ROCK STAR… She kept doing her thing, and she did it oh-so WELL! The backdrop was awesome– a mixed-age group of skaters and bikers, doing their THANG on the half-pipes…. So cool. The bikers went so many feet into the air, I’d get scared everytime! It was PERFECT!!!!! Friends, fun and good music was the theme of the evening… Did I mention JM RIPPED IT?????? Check out her amazing performance of “Tightrope” here. I made it almost into a mini-film in a minute and a half: you see these random breakers dancing on a rooftop, you get a feel for how packed the park was people… It’s beautiful… I’m kinda proud of this right here *tear* my amature debut (LOL) check it:
And there was much more than that! Janelle crowd-surfed, painted with her bare hands, and rocked on a LOT more… Check it out after the jump!
On the way out we stumbled upon this artist and his masterpiece:
And it ended off really great because I ran into an old friend from my old church in Queens. I’ve known him since I was 8 years old! What a great way to end a fly concert!
Afro Punk is the business, and JM is a must-see. She is the future, and the future is now.
