Unless you’ve been living under a rock, most likely you heard about the infamous Drake performance at the BET Awards. He sang, “Best I Ever Had” and “Every Girl” wit his mentor Lil’ Wayne by his side, and the pre-teen girl group, “OMG” dancing around them on stage. Those songs are very sexually charged, and in some instances degrading to women. How stupid it was for them to choose that instance to have under-aged girls on stage. People were sickened and outraged, but BET did nothing. Award-winning film-maker Byron Hunt sent a disgruntled open-letter to Debra Lee (BET President):
“Show executives watched, approved, and applauded as artists Lil Wayne, Drake, and Cash Money brought young, under-aged girls onto the stage to dance and serve as window dressing while they performed ‘Every Girl,’ a song that reduces girls and women to sex objects. In a culture where one out of four girls and women are either raped or sexually assaulted – and where manipulative men routinely traffic vulnerable women into the sex industry – it is not okay that BET allowed this to happen. BET owes its entire audience – particularly girls and women around the world – an apology for its failure to intervene.”

I agree with Byron, and I think BET is now doing what they can to damage-control– thing is, the damage has been done. CRUMBS!
*UPDATE* BET says they are “regretful” and will edit all encore presentations.
